Let’s face it. Organizing events over the past two years has been a musical chair scuffle. We have seen everything from cancellations, postponements, abandonments, or additional postponements, and keeping up with all the changes has been a full-time job. However, from the Venice Biennale in November of last year to Singapore Art Week in January, we are witnessing potential art events being effectively organized. There is a specific mention of that one artistic occasion that made and is making headlines around the globe.
Every year, we discover culture in new ways through one of the most highly revered biennales on the calendar, the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. It dwells gracefully on the coast that reminds us of yester-Malabar India, a place where ‘rain’ often strikes and ‘strikes’ often rain – Kochi. Moreover, there is no better place or home to contemporary art than a place that lines up some of the best artists representing their national pavilions from across the world in its most raw, definitive style and demeanor.
“In Our Veins Flow Ink and Fire” is the theme of the 5th edition of the Biennale in Kochi. It is perfectly suited to the endemic era we’re living in. This central theme of the biennale is drawn from artist-writer Shubigi Rao. The main art events will be on display from December 2022 to April 2023.
You get to witness cultural yards of alternative reality created. The location sits under the shadows of overhanging coconut trees in the Queen of the Arabian Sea, alias: Kochi. It features around 90 thriving and established local and international artists, collectives, and organizations. They present a staggering 200 projects (about) in galleries, historical sites, cafes, and public spaces.
Lastly, we can’t wait for Art Basel Hong Kong 2023!
