Cheung Chau – A Perfect Getaway from Hong Kong City

Cheung Chau is one of the editor’s favourite outlying islands in Hong Kong. The place is very idyllic and is suitable for vacationers as well as city-dwellers as it offers an escape from the crazy monotony called daily life.

This tiny and beautiful island is sandwiched between Lamma Island and Lantau. It serves as a perfect destination to hide from the electrifying Hong Kong city life and have a laid back, peaceful day. The place is a blend of a hep beach town and a fishermen’s village and it can be easily reached via ferry from the Central ferry pier in Hong Kong.

The island is known for its annual bun festival, which is usually held in May – in which you can fill tummy with your body weight in steamed buns. The island offers an array of fun activities including water sports, bicycling and beach lounging, along with fresh seafood and cheap beer.
